7 years ago. 'Crimson King' as already noted, is not closely related to "red maple". The former is a cultivar ( cultivated variety) of Norway maple having crimson or reddish-purple leaves. The latter is a native N. American tree having green leaves all summer and often, red foliage in the fall.
