W140 S-Class > Ignition switch problem = Broken ingnition switch cover Re: Chopping the steering lock. In reality, the reason you are 'having' to do this is because you have a broken ignition switch cover. Either it was broken before due to a bodged attempt by a previous owner/repairer or you must have broken it when you were pulling things apart.Slightly turn the unit and press in the tabs on the electrical connections (yellow arrows) and separate the connections from the module. If you have an automatic transmission you will need to remove the lock out cable.Turn the unit so you have access to the cable on the top.Squeeze in the two clips (red arrows) and slide the cable forward by ClusterFix Texas June 1, 2021. This issue is often caused either by a defective key, bad shifter module, a failed Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS) also known as the EIS-EZS or a bad steering lock module (ESL).
